Crown Valley Community Park
Laguna Niguel, California
The Crown Valley Park Channel Entry Improvements Project was awarded ASCE - Orange County's Parks & Recreation Project of the Year in 2017. It improved access to the community park with a new bridge to replace an Arizona crossing, provided two additional parking lots and improved water quality and filtration.
The Crown Valley Park averages 300,000 visitors per year, making it one of the busiest parks in the City of Laguna Niguel. Particular consideration was made to accommodate the needs of the community, as well as keeping the visitors safe. TJW's involvement in the improvement project included a redesign of the park's signalized intersection, design of the entry and parking lots' signing and striping, and development of construction phasing and traffic control plans. The construction phasing was prepared in order to maintain safe access to the park while the bridge and parking lots were under construction.
